The 2025 Grammys were not what I expected. So many snubs, and yet, so many great moments.
On Sunday, February 2nd, the 67th Grammy Awards took place in LA. I, as a Swiftie and a general fan of pop culture and pop music, woke up at an absurd hour on a school night to watch. I had a great time watching the performances, but I truly think that the Recording Academy was not thinking straight while picking their winners.
I’m sorry this post didn’t come yesterday as I planned. You see, was running on a few hours of sleep because I woke up at 2am to watch the award show, and I wasn’t coping well yesterday. But I’m here now, with a full recap of the Grammys!
Loving Her Was Red
Taylor showed up to the Grammys in a gorgeous, glittery custom-made Vivienne Westwood red mini-dress. She had a thigh chain with the letter ‘T’ on it, and I think we all know it didn’t represent ‘Taylor’, but someone else…
I personally loved this outfit. It was tailored well and perfectly fit her. The thigh chain immediately made me think of the Guilty As Sin? lyrics and I was gagged when I saw it. I think this outfit makes it to my top 3 Taylor Grammy outfits, and I will forever defend it.
The Return of Drunk Taylor
I waited for Drunk Taylor’s return ever since the 2024 VMAs, and I got what I wanted, and even more. Even though she was calm at the beginning of the award show, at the end Taylor didn’t spare us and danced like no one was watching, but was of course being filmed.
My favorite Drunk Taylor moments of the night were definitely her dancing to Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar and absolutely losing it during Charli XCX’s performance (as she should. Charli’s performance was nothing but epic and I watched in awe).
Queen T and “Queen” B
This year, Taylor presented the award for Best Country Album. COWBOY CARTER won the category, and Taylor gave Beyoncé the award. Honestly, I thought their interaction was so awkward. Taylor was trying to keep some space from Beyoncé and stepped away right after handing her the Grammy, but Beyonce went it for a hug and very awkwardly kissed Taylor on the cheek. Second hand embarrassment was making it hard for me to watch.
Taylor’s Nominations & Wins
This year, Taylor was nominated in six different categories.
Album of the Year (The Tortured Poets Department)
Best Pop Vocal Album (The Tortured Poets Department)
Record of the Year (Fortnight)
Song of the Year (Fortnight)
Best Music Video (Fortnight)
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (us.)
However, she won zero. I honestly didn’t expect TTPD to win anything from the three main categories (AOTY, SOTY, ROTY). There are iconic songs that represented 2024 so much better than Fortnight, and since Taylor won AOTY last year - it was clear that her chances of winning again this year were very low. However, TTPD deserved a Grammy. This album was the most successful this year (except for Short N’ Sweet), and I strongly believe it deserved more recognition from the Recording Academy.
The Winners: Main & Pop Categories
Album of the Year: COWBOY CARTER, Beyoncé
Best Pop Vocal Album: Short N’ Sweet, Sabrina Carpenter
Record of the Year: Not Like Us, Kendrick Lamar
Song of the Year: Not Like Us, Kendrick Lamar
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance: Die With A Smile, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga
Best New Artist: Chappell Roan
Best Pop Solo Performance: Espresso, Sabrina Carpenter
My Grammy Highlights
Here are a few Grammy moments (not necessarily related to Taylor) that I personally enjoyed watching and are worth looking up if you haven’t seen yet:
Best performances of the night: Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Charli XCX.
Each one of them proved themselves (again) as incredible performers. Sabrina’s performance of Espresso and Please Please Please was so witty and I watched her with pride. Chappell’s performance of Pink Pony Club had me in shock. The details were insane and the fact she was actually riding a giant pink pony had me. It was incredible. However, I think the best performer was Charli XCX, who performed my favorite song of hers, Von Dutch and her hit Guess. It was so fun to watch, and it was even better to watch Taylor dancing to it with a bottle of champagne in her hand.
Sabrina accepted her Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. One of the only categories that was completely fair.
We survived the great war: Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter hugged at the 2025 Grammys, officially ending the feud that started 4 years ago. Let me tell you, I almost screamed with joy when I saw the video of them hugging.
Taylor and Cynthia Erivo shared a chair and recreated the Holding Space meme.
Anything Drunk Taylor related.
We got a Taychappell interaction and a video of Taylor dancing to Pink Pony Club. I waited for this duo to publicly interact for so long and I was so happy. I now only have one question, as Taylor Nation asked on their Story yesterday: Do pink ponies get along with cats?
Taybrina. We got so much Taybrina content. From Taylor dancing to Espresso and literally jumping up and down after Sabrina won Best Pop Vocal Album to the amount of pictures they took together. Icons.
Louis Partridge and Olivia Rodrigo attended the Grammys together. Louis and Olivia are my favorite celebrity couple other than Tayvis, and I was so happy when I saw them entering the arena together.
The Grammys were not what I expected them to be, and I disagree with the Recording Academy on most of the winners, but I did have a great time watching, and there were many moments that I enjoyed. I have a whole review on this year’s Grammys and the winners of each category, and I could do a post about this if you would like, less Taylor-focused and more general.
That’s it for today! Happy one year since TTPD’s announcement. I am most definitely celebrating the real AOTY’s birthday today 🩷
I would love to get another article about the Grammys! Although I have to say I am quite mad at the board!!!
